Woven Contemplation
In this tranquil, meditation-inspired space, we drew upon the imagery of the Dunhuang Grottoes. The mural techniques of Dunhuang—rendered in watercolor and mineral pigments—inspired our approach: sacred mantras are etched into the walls through paint and carving, encircling the space. To dwell within is to hold a lotus in one's palm, incense drifting through still air—a place of quiet refuge, where body and spirit find peace together.
To practice meditation is to visualize; to visualize is to perceive. The homeowner, in his seventies, has practiced Buddhism for many years with unwavering devotion. Through a palette of unified tones and varied textures, we sought to create an atmosphere as serene and profound as a grotto sanctuary. Sightlines pass through, circulation flows freely—allowing the dharma to move naturally through the space, encircling without obstruction, as if entering a realm without doors.
